The species diversity and composition of seedlings for land rehabilitation provided by the Palu Poso watershed management agency in 2012-2017

Abstract: 
As land degradation continues to increase, land rehabilitation becomes necessary. The Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS) Palu Poso, a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) located in Palu, Central Sulawesi, is responsible for carrying out land rehabilitation efforts. The objective of this study was to identify the diversity and species composition of seedlings provided by BPDAS Palu Poso from 2012 to 2017 and to determine the reasons for the selection of these species. The results indicated that within this period, a total of 20 species were recorded, consisting of 13 native and 7 introduced species. The Simpson’s Dominance Index (D) ranged from 0.11 to 0.16, and the Simpson’s Diversity Index (1–D) 0.83 to 0.90. The Shannon Diversity Index (H’) ranged from 2.08 to 2.55, which can be considered moderate. The Evenness Index ranged from 0.66 to 0.87. The most abundant seedling species was nyatoh (Palaquium sp.) at 16.52% from the Sapotaceae family, followed by palapi (Heritiera sp.) at 13.02% from the Malvaceae family. The species was most frequently selected due to its cost suitability with the available budget and least frequently due to central government instructions.
