Growth performance of kampung super chicken supplemented with Vitamin E in the Diet

Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the effect of vitamin E supplementation in the diet on the growth performance of Kampung Super chicken (crossbred native chickens) reared in open-house systems under tropical conditions. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a unidirectional pattern using one hundred days old chicks (DOC) of Kampung Super Strain. The chicks were divided into four treatment groups, each with five replications, and each replication consisted of five birds. The first group served as the control and received no vitamin E supplementation, while the second, third, and fourth groups were supplemented with vitamin E at levels of 100 mg, 200 mg, and 300 mg/kg of feed, respectively. Each replicate was kept in a 1 m² pen. The birds were reared for 8 weeks with feed and water provided ad libitum. The results showed that dietary vitamin E supplementation had no significant effect (p>0.05) on feed intake, body weight, body weight gain, carcass and non-carcass percentages of Kampung Super chicken.
