Nutrition performance of ivorian local rice « JT11 » in Wistar rat

Abstract:
Objectives: In Côte d’Ivoire, rice is a priority commodity for food security. However, the country continues to massively import rice from a currency exit. The JT11 was a local selected variety to make the Emergency Production Program (EPP) set up by government. This study aims to evaluate the effect of cooked JT11 rice bleached or whole form on growth parameters and digestibility in wistar rats.
Methods: 21 wistar rats aged six to eight weeks were fed two diets formulated with JT11 rice (bleached or whole) and a control diet based on corn. Body mass gain, Food Efficiency Ratio (FER), Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER) and Apparent Digestive Use Ratio (ADC) were determined. The diets based on JT11 rice bleached and whole have made it possible to observe in rats, statistically comparable body mass gains from 2.53±0,37 to 2.32±0,17 g and higher than that of the control diet (0.85±0,13 g).
Results: The diets based on JT11 rice are also shown nutritional efficiency values comparable, from 0.24 0.02 to 0.25±0.02 for the FER, form 1.94±1.47 to 2.08±0.22 for the PER and statistically higher than these of control diet equal to 0.1±0.01 for the FER and 1.31±0.14 for the PER. The control diet is also presented higher digestibility than these of diets based on JT11 rice. ANOVA 1 has been performed to assess the effect of different diets on growth parameters and digestibility.
Conclusion: This study showed that JT11 rice have good nutrient wealth and his carbohydrates are conducive to the proper use of proteins contained in the diets. The JT11 rice variety showed good nutritional performance.
